Fancy a walk in the park? Kings Park is the perfect day out, especially now it's been through a whole stack of changes. Located in the middle of Perth, Kings Park offers a heap of fun for the whole family.
The latest attraction that's got all of Perth talking - or rather walking - is the $3.6million Lotterywest Federation Walkway in Kings Park. The new walkway features a 52-metre arched steel and glass bridge which passes through the treetops.
On the walkway you'll pass several new wildflower gardens, cross the beautiful water garden valley and enter the cathedral of the marri woodland forest. From the tree tops you'll also have exhilarating views of Kings Park and beyond.
To top this off, entry to walkway is free and it's open from 9am to 5pm every day of the year. You even have the option of accompanying a free guided group, where you can learn about the artwork and plaques along the way.
Another attraction in Kings Park is a brand new playground that opened in October 2003. While it all looks new, it certainly feels prehistoric, with three massive dinosaurs for the kids to play on. The huge creatures once roamed around Western Australia but these ones were designed specifically for children to climb on safely. Nearby there are 45 dinosaur stepping stones for the kids to hop across. There's also a range of climbing, swinging and sliding activities as well as an island fort to keep the little ones occupied.
All this walking, swinging and hopping is bound to give you a dinosaur-sized appetite. Head down to the new caf, also located at Kings Park. Called Zamia, the caf is named for the plant that the dinosaurs in Western Australia used to eat. But don't worry - the caf's menu features regular food like sandwiches, snacks, coffees and dessert.
