Marrawah is a tiny spot on Tasmania's remote and rugged northwest coast, which is surrounded by perfect hideaways and breathtaking scenery.
The town is the most westerly settlement on the island, and such is its solitude, if you even see another car on the road, you know it will be another tourist.
One of the best attractions of the area is King's Run, which is a large property just outside the town that overlooks the Southern Ocean. The property has only recently been opened up to motorists and hikers, which is just as well because the only way you can get in there is by foot or four-wheel drive.
Part of the uniqueness of King's Run stems from the fact that it is one of the only places in the world where you can spot a Tasmanian Devil in the wild. You will have to venture out at night though, because the Tassy Devil is nocturnal.
During the day there are plenty of coastal walks that will keep you entertained. Marrawah is also renowned for being a great spot for surfing and fishing. More specifically, the area is well known for its highly prized abalone shellfish. If you forget your line, Geoff King, the third-generation owner of King's Run, will supply you with one.
Marrawah has some great places to grab a bite to eat and the local Marrawah Pub is the best of them, with its beautiful pepper scotch fillet specialty.
For accommodation, Glendonald Cottage is a fully self-contained three-bedroom house located only three kilometres from the pub. It also borders another of Geoff King's properties.
