Cardiff was only christened the national capital in 1955, making it a young capital, yet it has over 2000 years of history and culture behind it.
At the centre of it all is Cardiff Castle, which is located right in the heart of the city. Here, there are three castles for the price of one: the Norman Keep dates back to the 12th century, the Roman Fortress was built over two thousand years ago and the Victorian Mansion was built in the 19th century.
Located just a five-minute drive from the centre of town, the Museum of Welsh Life is one of Europe's largest open-air museums and contains over 40 authentic Welsh buildings meticulously re-built brick by brick.
The one thing you won't get at the museum is a good old Welsh meal. If that is what you are after, head to The Celtic Cauldron, the only cafi in town that sells traditional Welsh dishes. Some of the oldest Welsh recipes here include Welsh Rarebit and Cawl, a lamb and vegetable soup.
If you've had enough history, why not take a look at the best example of modern Cardiff - the amazing Millenium Stadium. There are behind the scenes tours that will take you to all sorts of areas, such as the dressing rooms and inside the Stadium itself.
