This township is named after Gregory Blaxland, one of the three explorers who forged a passage over the Blue Mountains in 1813.
Constructed in 1833, Lennox Bridge is the oldest bridge on the Australian mainland and the first scientifically structured stone arch bridge in Australia. Stone used in this convict-built structure was quarried from about 500m higher up the gully. The bridge is accessible from the Great Western Highway at Blaxland.
Blaxland has the dubious honour of being the only town in the Blue Mountains with a McDonalds!
