In 1815 Governor Macquarie and his wife stopped by a spring for water down a deep glen. This gave way to the place that is now called Springwood, the second largest town in the Blue Mountains. Initially the site of a military post, the town is now a destination for bushwalkers seeking exciting challenges or picnickers in search of a serene park.
Featuring the oldest railway station building in the Blue Mountains, Springwood was a coal and water stop in the steam era. The town now hosts a diverse range of shops, cafes, historic hotels, antique shops, galleries and amenities for both the tourist and local alike.
The town comes alive in April for Springwood Foundation Day and in October for Springwood Crazy Day. Springwood serves as focal point for several villages - Winmalee, Yellow Rock and Hawkesbury Heights to the northeast, Valley Heights to the east, Faulconbridge and Linden to the West.
