Exeter was named by James Badgery, who had arrived in Sydney in 1799, and for 20 years had successfully farmed in the Bringelly region. His farm was called 'Exeter', after the town in England near where he grew up. Exeter was later given to the surrounding area.
This is just like little England, with respect to its heritage, namesake and surrounding flora. The architecture ranges from old weatherboards and modern homes to historic stone churches and enormous estate mansions. Today, Exeter is home to some of Australias best known horse studs. Within the township, antique lovers will find a small shop to peruse. Walk through the old lanes and streets, during Spring and Autumn you can visit some of the manicured estate gardens.Photos
