The Riverina Wine Region provides the foundations for the NSW viticultural industry. This region is larger than all the other wine regions in NSW put together. It expands west to Broken Hill, northeast to Parkes and southeast to Albury. Due the sheer size of the area, it is renowned for its production of bulk wines. However, a growing interest in boutique and premium wines is arising. The diversity of wines produced here is so vast, because the soil and climatic conditions vary throughout the extent of the region.

The early Italian immigrants significantly influenced this region. Since the early 1900's, the productivity of the region has been steady with more and more new vineyards being established over the years. Consequently, this region has become most important to the industry due to its consistency and quality. It is producing a large percentage of the states harvest.

The leading wine variety being produced in the region is Botrytis Semillon, a succulent dessert wine grown by a selection of producers. This region is gold for wine enthusiasts alike, hosting many fantastic cellar doors and restaurants that offer the local produce of the area. A highlight in the region is the annual food and wine festival, "unWINEd" held in June.
