Only 90 minutes away from Sydney, Wollombi is an ideal getaway location. This historic township is the Gateway to the famous Hunter Valley Wine Country and a rewarding destination itself.
Wollombi was the first town in the Lower Hunter Valley with buildings dating back to the early nineteenth century. Known as a meeting place by the Aboriginal peoples thousands of years ago, Wollombi later became a stopping place on the Great North Road, built by convicts and used by settlers in the 1830s.
Today, the serenity of the valley reflects the vibrancy of the life of the people who live there. The community's artistic and social activities show enormous diversity and creativity with a busy calendar for residents and visitors alike. Wollombi Valley is famous for its Aboriginal engravings, historical buildings, museum, convict artefacts, market days, wonderful theatrical productions, boutique wineries and art exhibitions.Photos
