Walgett is the gateway to the opal fields of Lightning Ridge, Glengarry and Grawin, and is situated at the junction of the Namoi and Barwon Rivers, an excellent fishing retreat. The town has several accommodation options, and a few restaurants.
Walgett is a rich sheep, cattle and wheat producing region. Here you can fish for Murray Cod and Golden Perch in the Namoi or Barwon Rivers.
The Walgett annual show is held on the second weekend in May and the Wool Festival on the October long weekend.
