Stoud is a fairly untouched town, rich in historic value. This picturesque country town is located in the heart of the lush, green Karuah Valley. The pleasant town of Stroud is full of beautiful historic buildings and happens to be home to one of the largest displays of convict contructions in Australia.
The Stroud region is around two hours drive (219 km) north of Sydney, and 75 km north-east of Newcastle. It was first established as a town in 1826 with the assistance of the Australian Agricultural Company. The main feature of the town is 'Silo Hill', a hill with eight underground wheat silos. One of these silos is open to the public, only accessible by a steel ladder at a depth of twenty feet. At the summit of the hill is a barbeque and picnic area.
Stroud is at the forefront of the vastly popular and rapidly increasing eco-tourism industry. This quaint town is perfect for a quiet weekend away, a tour from Sydney or just a secluded getaway.
