Weather for Jimmys Beach

Jimmys beach is conveniently located near Port Stephens and Yaccaba Heads. The beach looks out on to Nelson Bay and is usually a calm and sheltered place to swim or explore. Rod fishing or spear-fishing are popular activities on the sandy shores of the beach. The protected location of the beach also attracts jet-skiers and sail-surfers, and is a home base for kayaking clubs. Snorkelers and windsurfers frequent the western end of the beach. Families tend to gravitate towards the picnic ground near the caravan park, where there are free electric BBQ's and ablution facilities.

Port Stephens is famous for the resident pod of dolphins that frolic on its shores. Jimmys beach is blessed with its close proximity to Yacaaba. It is here that dolphins swim around the rocky outcrop and play in the surf catching waves and teasing surfers. Between late May and July, over 6,000 Humpback Whales migrate north to the tropics and return between September and November. A number of companies provide close encounters with these beautiful creatures.

Aside from water attractions there are several good walks. Try the track that leads to the top of the volcanic Yacaaba for a view of the entire coastline.
