Along the Lismore-Bangalow Rd discover Clunes. It began as a staging post on the Lismore-Bangalow Road and is now renowned for its historical past and beauty.

Named after an early engineer, Robert Mortimer Clunes, the village contains some fine examples of early Australian church architecture and North Coast federation homes feature throughout the district.

The Clunes General Store was first established in 1898 and is an important resource for the population of 500+ residents, providing a post office, newsagency, pizza, cafe and liquor outlet in addition to general commodities.

The Clunes Technology Centre, located on the old school site, has computer and internet-access and features annual art exhibitions and theatre productions.

Booyong Nature Reserve, around 10 minutes drive from the village, provides visitors with a short, circuit walk through a piece of natural history. This section of the Big Scrub, which once covered 75,000 hectares of Northern NSW, is one of the few remaining remnants of the rainforest in the area and is home to a colony of fruit bats.

The district contains a variety of accommodation options, including unique B&B’s just outside the village. There is also a chance to experience dinner or lunch in an historic country pub, just down the hill in nearby Eltham.
