The elegant water-side country town of Narrandera on the banks of Lake Talbot and the Murrumbidgee River, is a place rich in history and charm. The area was originally inhabited by the Wiradjuri Aborigines and the town's name is thought to derive from a word meaning "place of the goanna or lizard", paying homage to the famous local fauna.
An historic walking tour will take you through the town's main attractions, including the Tiger Moth Museum and Memorial, which honours those who trained in Narrandera's flight training school during WWII and the historic Royal Mail Hotel, courthouse and police station buildings. Narrandera is also home to the world's largest playable guitar and the award-winning Lavender Aromatics lavender farm, where you can take a tour of the gardens or browse the shop of locally made cosmetics and body products.
Lake Talbot is a great spot to swim and is ideal for water skiing and other water sports and the banks of the beautiful Murrumbidgee River are the perfect spot for a picnic.
