Weather for Snowy Mountains

The Snowy Mountains otherwise known as the high country has 2 distinct seasons, the summer season and the ski season. Both offering spectacular scenery and outdoor experiences.

During summer enjoy horse riding, bike riding, trout fishing or hiking through the plains of Australia’s highest National Park, Kosciuszko – the wildflower displays are beautiful! Temperatures in Summer can vary and it has even snowed in December and January, so ensure you are prepared for any weather.

During the ski season which officially starts on the long weekend in June and ends on the long weekend in October, discover the beautiful ski areas of Perisher, Thredbo and Charlotte Pass. If you are a well experienced skier a must is heading up the Crackenback chairlift in Thredbo for a terrific downhill run.

The area has a history dating back to the gold rush era and is renowned for the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electricity Scheme, which was launched in 1949, and today provides power to 3 states.

There are many towns to explore throughout the region, all offering different history, galleries and community spirit.
