Weather for Talbingo

Situated just 42km from Tumut, within the rugged Snowy Mountains region of NSW, Talbingo is a small country town positioned on the foreshore of the Jounama Pond. Originally settled in the late 1840’s, the old town actually lies beneath the waters of Jounama Pond - created by the Snowy Mountains Scheme.

From the late 1950s, Talbingo was an important work camp for labourers involved with the Snowy Mountains Scheme. With a population of roughly 300 people, the small town is known for beautiful forests, rolling hills and mountain scenery, attracting waterskiiers on the Talbingo Dam.

Nearby attractions include the Yarrangobilly Caves, a network of almost 300 caves. The South Glory, Jersey and Jillabenan caves are open to the public. Talbingo lies 460 km south-west of Sydney.

Talbingo was the town where Miles Franklin, of My Brilliant Career fame, was born.
