For those wanting to get away from it all but still be close enough to activities and fine dining, head to Chain Bay, commonly known as Maloneys Beach.

Just north of Batemans Bay, the beach is fortunate enough to be right next door to Murramurang National Park and situated on the estuary of Clyde Creek and the Deua River. The beach itself is perfect for families as it slopes gently down to the water and has none of the hazards of a surf beach.

These natural blessings make for plenty to see and do. Share the foreshore with a mob of kangaroos, fish for snapper in the calm waters or off the rocks. Watch as dolphins frolic in the ocean, take long walks through the scenic national park or snorkel in the reef system.

In 2007 Maloneys Beach residents pushed ahead with their plans for a protest against a new resort development in the area. It seems Maloneys will be an idyllic and peaceful place for a long time yet!
