The Katherine Region incorporates some of the most spectacular untouched wilderness areas on earth. This ancient landscape, carved over millions of years has long been a focus for the local Jawoyn people and is now accessible to tourers and adventurers alike.
The area is known for the famous Katherine Gorge at Nitimiluk National Park with the Jatbula walking trail a great place to explore wildlife, unique flora and fauna, Aboriginal rock art and the spectacular Edith Falls. Take a 4-5 day trip exploring the 66km trail or complete a 4-6 hour section of the walk in your favourite area.
Tours to the area are offered throughout the year including canoeing and boat cruises in the main gorges throughout the park where you can view the magnificent cliffs, cascading waterfalls and rock pools to swim in.
Katherine itself is nestled alongside the banks of the Katherine River with its range of accommodation options and visitor information centre ideal for finding out about tours in the area. The town is also close to the attractions of Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park and Katherine Hot Springs and Mataranka Thermal Pools.Photos
