Mount Perry is a small township, in the heart of the Burnett Region, founded on the mining and timber industries. Full of historic building and remnants of its copper mining past, the town is dominated by the peak of Mount Perry - rising 750m above the township.
The area is home to one of regional Queenslands largest gold mines at Mount Rawdon, and other attractions include an historic museum and Schuhs Lookouts stunning panoramic views.
Mount Perry Museum is a great spot to reflect on the past, with a variety of memorabilia and a fully operating blacksmith shop. Entry is by gold coin donation, and you are free to wander around at your leisure.
Another point of interest is the Boolboonda Tunnel; the southern hemisphere's longest hand cut unsupported tunnel, a remnant from mining days. These days its home to a colony of Bentwinged Bats, and used to access local properties.
If youre feeling a little adventurous; take a scenic hike to the summit of Mount Perry, a must for keen bushwalkers, or explore the Goodnight Scrub National Park, with its scenic vistas and wilderness camping.
Please note: Goodnight Scrub NP has unsealed roads.
Some local major sporting events are the twice yearly Mount Perry Races, the annual Mount Perry Mountain Bike Cup and the Mount Perry Woodchop.
