Great Keppel Island, Humpy Island, North Keppel Island and other little atolls are only a boat ride away.

The Central Queensland Coast is flanked by an abundant tropical hinterland that is characterised by a patchwork of farming, grazing and mining land, beautiful national parks and spectacular lakes and gorges. Arguably one of the most popular destinations of the Central Queensland Coast is slightly inland in the Central Highlands. Carnarvon Gorge and the Capricorn Caves are truly unique destinations that are an absolute must see for all visitors. Carved over millions of years by the flowing waters of Carnarvon Creek, the sandstone Gorge now snakes 30km through an otherwise dry landscape. Despite its remote location between Roma and Emerald, Carnarvon Gorge is popular for family camping holidays. There are walking tracks, gem fossicking for rubies, emeralds and sapphires for the more discerning traveller. For the adventurous, there are wild caving explorations or abseiling at Capricorn Caves.

Gladstone, located 100 kilometres south of Rockhampton is the site for one of the busiest harbours in Australia. Known as the doorstep of the Southern part of the Great Barrier Reef, Gladstone is a dynamic, modern city basking in a sub-tropical climate with national parks, waterways, secluded beaches and the Great Barrier Reef. Nearby the Town of 1770 is the first place where Captain James Cook stepped ashore in Queensland. Offshore are the island reserves of Heron, Wilson and Boyne Islands.
