Blackwater is a unique town situated on the Capricorn Highway. It is known as the coal capital of Queensland and was built to service the Blackwater Coal Mine. Tours of the mine can be held every Wednesday from 1000 hours starting at the mine site, 20 kilometres south of the Town.
The Lions Park is well known for one of the largest displays of flags in the world, each flag being representative of one of the 37 nationalities who laboured together in their efforts to establish the district's coal industry.
Anglers are welcome to drop a line in the Bedford Weir which is stocked with barramundi. 26 kilometres north from town, there are boating, camping, toilet and shower facilities. Don't miss the Saratoga fishing competition in September.
Blackwater is well-serviced with hotels, motels, clubs, shopping facilities and recreational venues. Just 55 kilometres from the Town is the spectacular Blackdown Tableland National Park. Here crystal clear creeks trickle through magnificent gorges.
