Gladstone, located 100 kilometres south of Rockhampton is the site for one of the busiest harbours in Australia. Known as the doorstep of the Southern Great Barrier Reef, Gladstone is a dynamic, modern city basking in a sub-tropical climate with national parks, waterways, secluded beaches and the islands of the Great Barrier Reef. In addition to the city and mainland, the Gladstone local authority area also includes 14 islands including part of Curtis island and Facing island.

This stunning region offers convenient access to the natural paradises of Heron, North West and Wilson Islands. These are stunning environmental and wildlife reserves that are havens for sea birds, turtles, white coral and other reef life that lies just under the water line. The beaches and islands off Gladstone offer some of the most renowned diving and snorkelling spots in Australia if not the World. This natural wonders are accessible via the Gladstone Marina as the departure point for charter boats and privately owned yachts.

On a historic note, the nearby the Town of 1770 is the first place where Captain James Cook stepped ashore in Queensland. There are several other historic towns in the area which has a rich industrial history. Visitors can take an industry tour or enjoy the areas many nature-based attractions.
