Experience a world-class walking track meandering through the magical paradise of Fraser Island.
Traversing 85 kilometres of stunning landscape in this World Heritage Area, the Fraser Island Great Walk showcases natural and cultural features of the world's largest sand island.
Follow traditional Butchulla pathways beneath towering rainforest, past crystal clear lakes and over vast sand dunes. Discover the island's history as you walk along paths where logging roads and tramlines once served a bygone forestry industry.
The Fraser Island Great Walk provides challenging and remote routes for experienced walkers as well as shorter, easier walks for visitors looking for a more relaxed experience. The main track takes between six and eight days to complete. Additional walking tracks link the Great Walk to the Island's main barge landings, accommodation and supply centres.
STARTING POINTS:
Hook Point - (vehicular barge from Inskip Point/ Rainbow Beach)Disembark from barge and walk approximately 100m to right to enter the high tide inland access track. Fraser Island Great Walk interpretive shelter is on the left.
Wanggoolba Creek - (vehicular barge from River Heads) Disembark from barge and walk approximately 2 km along the main road to Bennetts Creek firebreak, opposite Ungowa turnoff. Fraser Island Great Walk interpretive shelter is on the left.
Moon Point - (vehicular barge from Urangan Boat Harbour, next to Ampol Service Station) Not directly linked to the Great Walk. This entry point should only be used if you have already arranged to transfer to the eastern side of the island via another 4WD service.
Kingfisher Bay Fast Cat - (passenger ferry from Urangan Boat Harbour, mainland terminal) Disembark the Fast Cat and walk along the jetty then take the jetty road to the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village roundabout. Turn right and pass the tennis courts, store and petrol pumps. Continue up the driveway, crossing the Kingfisher Hill vehicle track. Follow this single-lane bitumen road to the right approximately 100m to the Fraser Island Great Walk interpretive display.Photos
