The name Gilston was given by a settler who named the district after a place of that name in England. Gilston is a district in the centre of the Gold Coast Hinterland south west of Nerang and immediately west of Broadbeach.
Settlement generally began in the 1860s where dairy and timber was the main industry of the local economy.
The communitys social events focused around the School of Arts and the State School. Typically Gilston has a number of churches, community halls and schools.
Today's community has a much broader network forming a central region between Canungra in the Hinterland and the coastal suburbs of the Gold Coast City.Photos
