The Nerang district was settled in 1863. As it was situated on the river and also on the coach route, it soon became a flourishing trading centre. Nerang meaning "little" was the euphonious name given to the beautiful river flowing through the scenic and fertile country of Ward, by its Aboriginal inhabitants. Once a rail centre for farmers and timber workers, Nerang is still a transport and administration hub with a major rail link and Council offices.

Nerang is situated on the Pacific Motorway with easy access to its numerous attractions including the Emerald Lakes Golf Course near Carrara and The Grand Golf Club near Gilston. Visit The Paradise Country farm tour with bush dancing, Billy tea and Australian bush skills such as sheepshearing.

The town offers most forms of accommodation and is conveniently situated away from the coastal buzz of Surfers Paradise, but close enough to enjoy all its highlights. It also offers a route out to the Gold Coast Hinterland and the beautiful scenic areas of Mt Tamborine.

Nerang has quite a few popular attractions where the Gold Coast Cycle Centre has velodrome and off road circuit. There is skating and fishing at Burchill Park adjoining the Nerang River. Nerang River is a trendy location for fishing, water sports, boating and picnics. An ideal fishing platform is located at Arthur Earle Park. If youre lucky you may catch a sizeable bream, flathead, whiting or trevally.
