Windaroo is situated on the western bank of the Albert River, only 2 km south of Beenleigh. In the 19th century, Windaroo was a sugar plantation managed by William Stanley Warren whom also managed other mills and industrial plants in the Northern Gold Coast area. The origins of the name Windaroo are unknown.

Windaroo is located in the Northern Suburbs of the Gold Coast and almost touches the outer southern suburbs of Brisbane. Windaroo is conveniently located off the main highway and offers some peace from the hustle and bustle of the coast and city. Windaroo is close enough to enjoy the delights of the Gold Coast tourist hubs and Brisbane CBD whilst being far enough out of the way to enjoy some historical aspects of the Northern Gold Coast.

Some historical experiences include the former sugar cane and dairy farm that was developed by the Heck family. Now, Windaroo is home to many in the residential estate complete with golf course in the 1980s. Today the suburb benefits from the facilities of a high school, primary school and a great shopping centre.
