The quaint suburb of Coombabah is located to the north of Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast. Coombabah borders the Coomera River and the tidal wetlands of Coombabah Lakes Nature Reserve. Being predominantly a family orientated suburb, Coombabah has an abundance of parks, wildlife and easy river access. The word Coombabah translates to home of the turtles.

Fishing is a popular activity and a major drawcard to Coomabah. A concrete jetty here provides opportunities for anglers to cast a line into Coombabah Creek. The jetty is located down stream of Coombabah Lake. Both the creek and the lake are protected and are some of the most significant fish nurseries in Queensland.

There are also a lot of lake and riverfront homes and dry lots only a short walk from the water. Having more of a small fishing village ambiance, the creek is lined with fibro shacks used by visitors that are still coming back after 40 or 50 years. Coombabah is a real escape from the stereotypical hype of Surfers Paradise. It is a truly beautiful and quiet holiday destination where the same holidaymakers have returned to enjoy their uninterrupted views of the estuary and fantastic positioning to live in retirement.
