Originally, Bundall was the site for the Bundall Sugar Plantation when the main produce from the area was sugar cane in the agricultural and industrial era of the Gold Coast. Later the land was sub-divided and used for dairy farming.

Now, the suburb is a major centre for the city landmarks. Arguably, the most prominent being the Gold Coast Arts Centre that features a theatre, art gallery and arts café. This is the grandest arts and entertainment complex in regional Australia.

Gold Coast City Council also has a major administrative centre and corporate offices situated in Bundall. This suburb is the business hub for the working sector of the Gold Coast. Evandale Sculpture Walk near Gold Coast Art Centre gets you outside and art loving and is a nice contrast to the professional ambience. The Historic Museum is open on the first Sunday of the month March to November at Elliott Street.
