HARBOUR BEACH: This popular patrolled beach is a favourite with locals - offering the ideal spot for picnics, fishing and swimming. Only a 5-minute drive from Mackay's city centre, Harbour Beach is also a great place to see the new Mackay Reef Marina development and enjoy a bite to eat at the Mackay Surf Club overlooking the ocean.

ILLAWONG "FAR" and ILLUKA "TOWN" BEACHES: Popular for their sensational sunrises, these two beaches offer great views of Flat and Round Top Islands and Dalrymple Bay. Both are only a 5-minute drive from Mackay's city heart. Illawong Beach also features a pool and beach volleyball courts.

LAMBERTS BEACH: Lamberts Beach, at Slade Point, is a popular spot for surfers when the swell is right, as well as a great whale watching platform during our winter months.

Pick a perfect Mackay day and head to the Lamberts Beach Lookout to one of the most spectacular views on the North Queensland coast. A highlight of any stay, the lookout is unsurpassed for day and night time gazing. During whale season be one of the many lucky people to see these majestic animals at play.

BLACKS BEACH: Mackay's longest beach, stretching for 6 km, is lined with tropical gardens. Guests at any one of the beachfront holiday resorts dotted along this sandy coastline wake up each morning to the sound of the gentle surf. It is a beautiful spot with patrolled beaches, located only 10-15 minutes drive from the city centre.

BUCASIA BEACH: Find your own private spot and sit back and take in the spectacular views of Dolphin Heads and the North Cumberland Islands. Bucasia Beach stretches over several kilometres of tree-fringed shoreline. For lunch, enjoy a picnic at nearby Esplanade Park; featuring playground equipment and well-maintained barbeque and picnic areas. The beach has a stinger-resistant enclosure. Located 15 km from Mackay City Centre.

SHOAL POINT: Shoal Point offers sweeping views of the islands as well as Cape Hillsborough and the beautiful Hibiscus Coast. Enjoy a leisurely Mackay day taking in the view from the park, complete with playground, picnic and barbeque facilities. Located 20 minutes drive from the city centre.

EIMEO AND DOLPHIN HEADS: At low tide you can walk from Eimeo Beach to neighbouring Dolphin Heads which is believed to have been named after the unique characteristic of its headlands that appear similar in shape to the heads of two dolphins.

When visiting the Northern Beaches, lunch at the Pacific Hotel at Eimeo is a must. Famous locally as the "counter lunch with a million-dollar view" the hotel's beer garden sits atop a cliff overlooking the Coral Sea, Eimeo Beach and Sunset Bay. Located 15 km from Mackay city heart.
