The Pioneer Valley is one of the most fertile and picturesque valleys in Australia, and the community within is steeped in pioneering history.
MIRANI: Mirani is the headquarters of the 'The Platypus Shire' and its’ Museum provides an insight into the history of the valley's role in the sugar industry. The Illawong Fauna Sanctuary is nearby and caters for the whole family. It has a range of native Australian animals including crocodiles, kangaroos, emus, koalas and dingoes.
PLEYSTOWE: A picturesque village with one of the oldest sugar mills in Qld. It started crushing in 1869 and it is still producing sugar today.
MARIAN: Pleystowe has the oldest but Marian has the largest sugar mill! The huge Marian Supermill actually stretches overhead, across the Eungella Road. Marian is on the Pioneer river.
GARGETT: Join the locals swimming in the creek near the Gargett Bridge. The ridge spans Cattle Creek, which runs to the base of the Eungella Range.
PINNACLE: The Pinnacle Playhouse theatre showcases local talents, and the newly constructed Teemburra Dam provides irrigation to the local sugar farms and also great fishing.
FINCH HATTON: The last accommodation stop before the climb up Eungella. It has all services usually found in a small country town.
NETHERDALE: The last village before entry to the National and home to the 'Netherdale Foods' mango processing plant.
EUNGELLA: Eungella is in the area known as Dalrymple Heights, which is the centre of the district's dairy and timber industries. Plenty of accommodation.
