Longreach is approximately 700km west of Rockhampton. Situated on the banks of the Thomson River the region offers stunning scenery in Queensland's central outback. This area is rich in incredible history. Australia's most famous song, Waltzing Matilda, was written here. Australia's international airline, Qantas, was founded here. The shearer's strike in Barcaldine in 1891 led to the formation of the Australian Labor Party.
Nearby Birdsville, is a popular tourist destination and is most famous for the legendary annual Birdsville Races, which are held in September in aid of the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia.
