The South Burnett Wine Region was the first official wine region declared in Queensland. This region was recommended due to its many soil types, all of which are appropriate for vines, and the sub-tropical climate. Most of the rain falls in the growing season and water is available from dams all year round, even in the dry season.

The main towns of the region are Kingaroy, Wondai and Murgon. Most of the vineyards are situated around Kingaroy and the Bjelke-Petersen Dam.

The South Burnett Wine Region is perfect for a relaxing day trip from Brisbane. There is a wine trail with many inviting cellar doors along the line. The annual Wine and Food in the Park Festival is held in March. It is a not to be missed opportunity to experience the local produce and all that the region has to offer.
