Surat is the administrative centre of the Waroo Shire with some 500 residents populating the area. Surat comes as a pleasant surprise to people travelling through. Situated on the beautiful banks of the Balonne River, Surat lies 80 kilometres south of Roma on the Carnarvon Highway. The region is renowned for quality wool and wheat and is also reputed for excellent beef cattle production.
