Pomona nestles in a beautiful valley at the base of Mount Cooroora, about 15 kilometres north of Cooroy. Once a timber and dairy town, Pomona now has become a popular area for those seeking a serene, rural lifestyle, with small farms and country homes. Pomona is a relaxed country town with some pleasant easy walking tracks around the delightful parks.

Pomona was first settled in the late 1880s and the railway that arrived in 1891 started the expansion of the agricultural industries. Originally known as Pinbarren siding the name was changed in 1906 to Pomona, named after the Roman goddess of fruit and orchards.

Pomona's Majestic Theatre is more than 80 years old making it the oldest continually running cinema in Australia. The Cooroora Historical Museum is at Pomona, while sealed roads lead to Boreen Point and Kin Kin.

Pomona has a hotel, post office, railway station and a good shopping centre. The annual King of the Mountain footrace up Mount Cooroora and back is staged at Pomona each July. The Noosa Show is also an enjoyable event.

Pomona is located about 25 minutes from Noosa, just beyond Cooroy. The drive is very pleasant and can be linked as part of a circuit to include Boreen Point on the return journey. There are many historical attractions along with some pleasant cafes.
