Thuringowa is a relaxed region that covers a large area of tropical Queensland; in the south from the back of Townsville, to the Paluma Range National Park in the north. The actual City of Thuringowa is in the southern section of the region, about 10 km out of Townsville.
Townsville was originally a small town within the Thuringowa region, with both declared seperate shires in 1918. Unfortunately, a great deal of infrastructure was lost to Townsville, leaving Thuringowa to rebuild it's services over the following decades.
In current times, the area is the fastest growing in Australia, with the population steadily increasing. The region supports varied industries; tropical fruit growing (lychees and mangoes), cattle farming, sugar cane, and nickel processing.
Thuringowa stretches from the coast, with kilometres of white sandy beaches to explore, across sparkling rivers, and up to pristine rainforest hinterland, where you will find many a cool oasis to relax in.
