Tropical North Queensland is home to the Great Barrier Reef and tropical rainforest including the Daintree National Park and some of the greatest environmental wonders of the world.
Combining adventure and relaxation; the region is full of pristine, sandy beaches and coves, beautiful island escapes and national parks with walking trails, mountains, lakes and waterfalls.
Cairns is the region’s main city, a great base for exploring the area including white water rafting in the surrounding rivers, scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef and taking in magnificent views on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. The Atherton Tablelands are to the west of Cairns and have many lakes and waterfalls to explore along bush walking trails.
To the north of Cairns is Port Douglas, a popular tourist destination with an extensive range of tours available. These include anything from 4WD tracks, hot air balloon rides and boat charters to the Mossman Gorge swimming hole and canopy tours in the Daintree National Park.
Accessible by 4WD only, by self drive or tour, the historical Cooktown is 327km north of Cairns know for its James Cook Historical Museum and surrounding wilderness area up to Cape York. Here you can visit Aboriginal cultural sites, visit the exclusive Lizard Island and journey to the Northern tip of Australia.Photos
