Take a self drive adventure along The Savannah Way, linking east to west, through varied landscape stretching 3500 kilometres from Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef to Broome in WA. Journey from coast to coast through the beautiful horizons at the Atherton Tablelands and outback towns of Katherine, Kununurra and Fitzroy Crossing all the way to the sandy beaches of Broome.

Just half a day out of Cairns via the revitalizing Innot Hot Springs, The Undara Lava Tubes near Mt Surprise are a must see with the longest lava flow from a single volcanic crater on Earth. From there travel on to Forsyth to Cobbold Gorge with its amazing sandstone formations and refreshing waterholes.

There is much to explore along the way; historic cattle towns of Normanton and Georgetown, the stunning Lake Argyle near Kununurra and various fishing hotspots at Karumba and Borroloola.

Katherine is the gateway to the spectacular Nitmiluk National Park with its amazing fossils and the popular Katherine Gorge; it is a fabulous spot for swimming, canoeing and boat tours or scenic flights over the beautiful landscape.

Stop at one of the many camp sites and take a few days to visit the famous Kakadu National Park with its abundant wildlife, towering escarpments and waterfalls. The magnificent Gregory and Keep River National Parks between them boast excellent 4WD tracks, ancient Aboriginal sites and beautiful gorges.

The Savannah Way offers travellers a range of unique attractions from fossicking for topaz at O'Briens Creek near Mt Surprise to visiting the World-Heritage listed sandstone beehives of the Bungle Bungle Range in the Purnululu National Park.
