Mention Port Douglas and the spectacular Mossman Gorge and the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest spring to mind.
Mossman is a beautiful village against a backdrop of sugar cane. 5 minutes west of town lies the Mossman Gorge, a very accessible and scenic section of the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park. The Mossman River tumbles its way over and around the huge granite boulders framing the gorge, creating cool clear freshwater swimming holes.
Cape Tribulation is an area north of Daintree, which is the end of the bitumen. The Daintree Ferry provides access into the Cape Tribulation area. This area boasts some of the most beautiful beaches, rivers and mountains in the whole of Australia. In most places, there is little human activity. Exploring the beaches and the fringing reef is one of the great experiences of staying at Cape Tribulation. The beaches stretch for miles and there are few people.
The township of Daintree, perched on a bend of the Daintree River, is just further on from the turn off to the Daintree Ferry. The only cable ferry in tropical Australia, the Daintree Ferry provides the only southern access into the lowland Daintree Rainforest.
