Mossman is a beautiful North queensland village against a backdrop of sugar cane, under the watchful eye of Mt Demis' peaks. Perhaps more famous for its river and gorge than the town itself, Mossman is a pleasant remains the centre for the sugar industry north of Cairns.

Situated just 20mins north of Port Douglas, Mossman remains rather quiet and unaffected as the majority of visitors speed past on their way further north to the World Hertage-listed areas of the Daintree rainforest and Cape Tribulation. It is well-worth stopping however, to wander the streets of a true North Queensland country town with historic pubs and peruse the eclectic wares in its local shops.

A beautiful place to see whilst in Mossman is the Karnak Playhouse, an amphitheatre set in the mountains and hills. Backed by a magical cloak of rainforest, waterfalls and looming mountains; this is a place where performances are designed to embrace the natural sounds.

Mossman is the region's sugar capital, and the Mossman Central Mill throbs and hums its way through the sugar cane crushing season (June October) when it is possible to do guided tours of the entire process inside the mill. And if you are lucky enough to visit during the cane harvesting season, you might chance upon the breathtaking sight of a cane fire in full force.

5 minutes west of town lies the Mossman Gorge, a very accessible and scenic section of the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park. The Mossman River tumbles its way over huge granite boulders that form the gorge, creating natural crystal-clear freshwater swimming holes. Visitors can walk as far as the suspension bridge across the river, or explore the 2.7km rainforest loop trail.
