Waterloo Bay: Sheltered by a reef, this tranquil bay is ideal for the fishing, swimming, or snorkelling enthusiast. The bay is protected by point Wellington and point Wellesley and as a result it’s the perfect breeding habitat for many fish species. The visitor can enjoy a quiet stroll, on many of its clean beaches or explore the caves scattered around the Bay. The main beach has a boat launching facility and a pontoon.
Heritage Listed Jetty: This 1389 ft jetty situated central in Waterloo Bay was originally built by the early settlers, and has been recently restored its one of the few screw pylon structured jetties still in use and lit at night. Tommies, Garfish, large squid, whiting, trevally, can be caught from this heritage wharf.
Town Hall Murals: Depicting the early history of Elliston to the present day through painted murals. This mural the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, has been painted by local artists who are also responsible for the “sculptures on the Cliffs” held bi-annually.
Ocean Views: Take the cliff top drive to Anxious Bay and enjoy the spectacular stretches of rugged cliffs, Islands and breathtaking scenic coastline. There are many lookouts along the way including Salmon point and Blackfellows, which incorporates one of the best surfing waves in Australia. Then onto the esplanade along to the cliffs. To experience magnificent views of rugged Ocean bays and find our special fossilised weevil Leptopius duponi cacoons (Dutch clogs), which range in age from 40,000 years old up to 100,000 years old.
Sheringa Beach: See spectacular dunes backing up the beautiful clean white sands, and crystal blue waters, which is Sheringa beach. Combine this with fantastic ocean views as you drive past another salmon beach. The Early settlers have made a mark on the landscape with their hand collected dry stonewalling. The best examples can be found near Sheringa, Bramfield and Oaklands Station (Bed and Breakfast) 20 km south of Elliston.
Locks Well: The famous Salmon Surf fishing Beach is a special place for the keen Angler. Many a tale has been told of the triumphs of this beach. For many years, Locks Well was a rugged climb for Anglers hauling their catch up to the car park. Nowadays the modern fisherman has access to 283-step staircase. A lookout has been provided for the visitor with a panoramic view of the rugged coastline of the Eyre Peninsula.
Anxious Bay: Situated to the immediate North, is yet another clean and unspoilt Bay offering its spoils of King George Whiting, crayfish and much more. While its beach and ledges provide good fishing a boat ramp gives access to its waters for fisherman and tourists to explore Waldegrave Island (4 km off shore) or Flinders Island (35 km). Anxious bay is appropriately named! We recommend you seek local advice on Boating sizes and conditions before you venture out.
Walkers Rocks: Named after an early settler who lived near this picturesque bay offers the traveller a pleasant day trip of swimming, snorkelling and fishing. Lake Newland Conservation Park, 25kms North of Elliston is an elongated lake system, which affords excellent views of wild duck, Cape Barren geese and other water birds.
Talia Caves: If you like caves you will love Talia! (Located 40km north of Elliston) The sea and wind have etched patterns through time on its limestone roof whilst the surf washes the rocks edging the cave, giving a spectacular scene. Talia Caves and mount Camel Beach offer beach-fishing enthusiasts the Great Australian Bight to land that Sought-after salmon. Whales, Seals and Dolphins are regularly spotted along this pleasant coast. Visit Elliston and its unspoilt beauty.
