Situated almost in the geographical centre of the Eyre Peninsula, Lock is a wheatbelt town operating as a service centre for the surrounding cereal and sheep farmers, with very little for the passing traveller.

Hambridge Conservation Park, covering over 37,000 hectares, is located north of Lock and features extensive sand dunes and mallee scrub. It has been related to Victoria's Mallee district due to its low rainfall and resultant features.

Also visit Hinck's Conservation Park. It is located Southeast of Lock nearer the town of Murdinga lies Hinck's Conservation Park. This park which is predominantly sand dunes and plains making it much of its 66 300 hectares inaccessible.

Sporting facilities in Lock include an 18 hole golf course, bowling greens, turfed oval, tennis courts, swimming pool, wading pool and playground within licensed sporting complex and a racecourse.

Accommodation is provided by way of a hotel, and a caravan park. Lock also has a supermarket and takeaway and a landing strip for small aircraft.
