Weather for McLaren Vale Wineries

McLaren Vale has a moderate maritime climate with long summer/autumn ripening periods and is hence considered one of Australia's premium wine growing regions. First planted in the 1900s, the wines produced in this region are renowned for their ripe, full-bodied generous flavour.

McLaren Vale produces ripe, rich reds; Shiraz characterised by berry, spice characters. The major white variety of McLaren Vale is Chardonnay that is rich, ripe and peachy. The region also produces consistent top quality Cabernet Sauvignon.

The region has a diversity of grapes in particular Malbec, Merlot, Chardonnay, Semillon, Grenache, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Verdelho, because of the varied soil types.

There are 50 wineries in the McLaren Vale Wine Region offering cellar door. So, it’s easy to sample the local drop! And while you're there plan to enjoy the festivities and events at the McLaren Vale Sea and Vines Festival held in June each year.
