Peterborough is located on the fringe of the Flinders Ranges. It is a historic railway town built around the railways over a period of 100 years, which grew from a small farming settlement.
The railway has all but disappeared as an undustry, however the town has worked to preserve the heritage that is ingrained in Peterborough's history. It is one of only two places in Australia where three railway gauges met.
The local industry now focuses on tourism, and promoting the town as a pleasant place to visit and explore. Be welcomed to Peterborough by the scale model steam trains, which have been built by a local community member and placed at all 4 entrances to town.
Peterborough services farms of the surounding district, with great amenities for the traveller and a wonderful range of museums to delight all visitors.
