Stokes Bay is situated on the peaceful North Coast of Kangaroo Island, with its rugged coastline, rocky beach and hidden sandy bay, just over an hour from Kingscote via the Playford Highway.
The North Coast is a great holiday escape, a quieter option to the busier South Coast, but within easy access of all the attractions of Kangaroo Island.
Stokes Bay with its camp ground and holiday cottages is an ideal place to base yourself with its rock pools at the eastern end of the beach, great fishing spots and bushwalking trails. The Rockpool Cafe is open from October to May and is set in Stokes Bay Camp Ground with BBQ facilities and picnic area overlooking the ocean. Lathami Conservation Park is just a 10 minute drive from Stokes Bay, named after the Glossy Black Cockatoo, an endangered species the park endeavours to protect.
Another attraction is The Stokes Bay Bush Garden featuring some of the most unique flower and plant life in Australia, home to over 150 Kangaroo Island species, 750 named plants and many seasonal native orchids.
Another must see is Paul’s Place, an animal sanctuary offering a unique look at Australian wildlife with walk through enclosures, informative talks and hand reared animals that enjoy human contact. The Rare Breeds Farm is also nearby and rescues and protects rare breeds of domesticated farm animals.
