Originally named Mill's Reef, Alonnah is a small township on the western side of Bruny Island that faces the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. The aboriginal name for Bruny Island, Lunawanna-Alonnah was adopted for two Bruny Island towns in the early 1900s. A nearby township a little to the south took the name Lunawanna and Mill’s Reef became Alonnah.
