Weather for Bagdad

Bagdad is a small community of nearly 700 people situated 73 kilometres north of Hobart, on the Midland Highway. It is situated between Mangalore Tier, Butlers hill and Bagdad Rivulet. The nearest populous town is the town of Pontville which is 7km away.

Originally an important rest area for horse and buggy travellers on the way up to Constitution Hill, Bagdad is now mainly an area of orchards and small farms.

The town was named by the explorer Hugh Germain, who reportedly carried the Bible and Arabian Nights in his saddlebags while travelling. Entranced by this literature he named several Tasmanian towns after Biblical and Arabian themes.
