Huonville is a busy town on the tranquil Huon River, and gateway to the Huon Valley, where fruit orchards erupt with blossom in the spring and produce luscious fruit all summer and autumn including plums, cherries, apricots, peaches, apples and pears.

A short drive takes you to lovely walks at the Pelverata Falls. A thrilling jet boat whizzes you down the river and back again. You can play golf, lawn bowls and tennis, ride a horse, take a fishing rod out on a rowboat.

Frenchman, Bruni d’Entrecasteaux, rowed his boat here in 1792. The river is as lovely now as it was then. Visitors can also treat themselves to a look around the Huon Valley Apple Museum. See why Tasmania was called the Apple Isle at this museum in the Huon Valley, the hub of the old and revived apple industry. Kelly's Lookout is another must see located at South Bruny Island, only a ferry trip from Kettering with a cafe and restaurant.

The Forest & Heritage Centre, devoted to the history and development of forestry, which always has and still does play a big part in Tasmania's development. The Bligh Museum of Pacific Exploration on Bruny Island, was established to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Captain Bligh's birth, who planted the first apple trees in Tasmania. Open Daily 10am to 5pm through December to April and 10am to 4pm through May to November, excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday.
