Sorell is located 26 km east of Hobart on the Arthur Highway and is the gateway to the south-east of Tasmania. Sorell is a service town surrounded by farming communities, and was once the grain capital of Tasmania. It is now known for sheep, dairy produce and mixed farming, as well as its growing tourism industry.

The town of Sorell has a population of 15,000 and is the fastest growing community in Tasmania. It has an ideal position, just 10 minutes from Hobart Airport and 20 minutes from Hobart City making it a popular commuter area. Sorell boasts a busy shopping centre, a great range of eateries and a diverse selection of accommodation.

Sorell was named after the then governor of Van Diemen's Land, Lieutenant Governor William Sorell. The area is home to many historic buildings, including three National Estate listed Churches and is host to an annual bushranger festival each November.
