Launceston and the North East is a region rich in farming and agricultural land, cool climate vineyards, national parks, rainforests and abundant wildlife, pristine beaches and coastline and galleries and museums filled with the areas history.
The second largest city, Launceston, is full of eateries, culture, museums and history. It is the gateway to the Tamar Valley and its cool climate wineries and also to the Cataract Gorge a spectacular natural phenomenon.
Birdlife and wildlife is prolific in the area with the Flinders Island being the resting spot for thousands of migrating birds coming from north of the Arctic Circle.
Freycinet National Park is world famous for its Wineglass Bay, filled with white sandy beaches and sparking clear turquoise water. An area rich in colourful granite mountains, sea and birdlife.
The Heritage Highway between Launceston and Hobart is well worth exploring. Here you will feel the gentler pace of the past and discover beautiful country scenery, the State's best-preserved colonial towns and villages where Georgian cottages line quiet streets.Photos
