Situated 60km north-west of Launceston and at the mouth of the Tamar River, Greens Beach is a relatively undeveloped beachside hamlet. The town has a population of roughly 500, which swells to around 2000 in peak holiday periods.

Pictured is the memorial to WWII 2nd/40th infantry division which comprised 917 men sent to Timor in 1941. Captured after only 3 days of conflict with the massive Japanese invasion force, these men endured a long suffering 3 and a half years in the Pacific POW camps including the Burma rail, Changi, Sumatra and Nagasaki. There are 5, 3.5m tree carvings which allow history to unfold as you walk the Heritage way display.

The area was first settled in 1828, however the first white visitor is believed to date back to 1798. He was Samuel Jervis, reportedly marooned by a jealous uncle. Jervis was the son of Lord Jervis whom Jervis Bay NSW is named after as a dedication for service with Lord Nelson in a series of naval battles with the Spanish and the French in the late 1700’s, early 1800’s.

This scenic area offers beaches, inlets, islands, wetlands, dunes and lagoons coastal ranges and is a take-off point for exploring the lovely Narawntapu National Park's. You can view an amazing variety of plants and animals inhabit the park, including wombats and Tasmanian devils, forester kangaroos and Bennetts wallabies.

The local Golf Club was built in 1950 featuring a great mix of traditional, resort, and links style holes and its greens making it recognized as amongst the best Tasmania has to offer.
