A lovely old country town settled on the banks of the Elizabeth River in the 1830s.
It was, and is, the centre of the sheep-farming region of Tasmania.
There is an impressive collection of colonial buildings such as The Grange (the local wealthy doctors house built in the late 1840s), the Foxhunters Return (1834), St Lukes Church (1939) and the Red Bridge (1836).
